Cubs 5, Wheatland Kings 3

The battle for second place — and a first-round playoff bye — has been ongoing for months.

The Cubs are in the hunt.

And Saturday night's comeback certainly helped.

Trailing 3-1 early in the third period, the Cubs ripped off four unanswered goals 

Mason Fischer scored the equalizer and then potted the winner with 3:34 to play.

Spencer Chapman scored a pair and also had two helpers.

Chandler Aleman also scored as Medicine Hat improved to 22-9-2, four points back of the Cochrane Generals, and with a game in hand.

Garret Vander Ploeg scored and added a helper while Will Kathol and Jaycob Masciangelo also scored for Strathmore (11-22-0).

The Cubs and Wheatland King get back at it Sunday afternoon(2:15 p.m.).

Generals 8, Lakers 0

Dean Olenyk led the way with a hat trick as part of a four-point night as the Generals blanked the Lakers.

Erik Garber kicked out 20 shots to pick up his third shutout of the season.

Brady Newton made 58 saves between the pipes for Lomond.

Patrick Forde also had a four-pointer with a goal and three helpers.

Brandon Aab picked up a pair of goals while Scott Shugg and Taylor Girard chipped in with singles.

Lomond (3-30-1) visits high River on Friday.

Cochrane (24-8-2) is at Okotoks next Sunday.

Bisons 6, Copperheads 5

Riker Franczak extended his streak in style.

The Calgary product, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Wednesday, scored a hat trick and added an assist to run his points streak to 13 games.

Tyler Witzke potted a pair and set up another while Tyson Scott rounded out the scoring.

The Copperheads (22-12-1) spread the offence around with five different players — Thomas Johnson, Tyler Anderson, James Halverson, Mason Sande and Ty Abbott — finding the scoresheet.

Coaldale travels to Stettler on Sunday.

Okotoks (32-2-0) hosts Strathmore on Friday.

Colts 7, Stampeders 3

Seven different Colts enjoyed multi-point outings on Saturday.

Zane Leatherdale, who was the overtime hero the previous night, led the way with a goal and two assists.

Bryce Gray scored twice while Caden Switzer, Alan Klinck, Laine Rothenbusch and Carter Layden also lit the lamp.

Kieran Bulloch and Tyrone Potts had a goal and an assist apiece for the Stamps while Walker Guthrie rounded out the scoring.

Mountainview (18-14-3) hosts Airdrie on Wednesday while Ponoka (7-23-2) visits Rocky on Friday.

Vipers 8, Rams 2

Rylan Burns scored twice and set up two others as Red Deer rolled to victory.

Elijah Johanson, Austin Gallant, Jace Paarup, Jacksyn Goodall, Jarvis Gaume and Matias Letwin also found the back of the net in Red Deer's best offensive production in the past 17 games.

Brett McNutt and Kehler Bagstad replied for the Rams.

Rocky (9-22-2) visits Sylvan Lake on Sunday while Red Deer (21-11-1) hosts Ponoka on Monday.
