HJHL Roundup - Dec. 21

Scott Fisher

Vipers 7, Lightning 4

Goals were hard to come by.

Good thing the Stattler Lightning had Indiana Kelly.

The Lightning 'tender Indiana Kelly.

Kelly booted out 30 shots and then shut the door in the shootout as Stettler edged Ponoka 2-1 in a shootout.

Tye Mulgrove broke a scoreless draw near the midway point of the final frame to give the hosts the lead but Ponoka's Bailey Nesbitt answered just over a minute later.

That was it for 65 minutes of action.

Rylee Jacobson and Rhett Shingoose scored in the shootout as the Lightning improved to 9-17-2.

Lightning general manager Trevor Wagner said his squad followed through on the game plan.

"It was a good game by both teams," Wagner said. "We were able to score on our first and second shooters, with Indy shutting the door on Ponoka.

"We put in a solid game.

"One of our goals was to keep the shot total down to 20-25. In regulation, it was 27, so that was pretty good.

"We got the win and two points we needed."

Flyers 7, Colts 5

Michael McTighe scored a hat trick as High River rebounded from a tough loss the previous night.

Jakob Jefferies potted a pair and added an assist and Layne Sniher also scored and had a three-point night for the Flyers.

Liam Thiessen rounded out the scoring for High River, which will enter the Christmas break at 11-15-3.

Corbin Houchin, Paton Rothenbusch, Sam Kolke, Carter Layden and Mitchell Visser replied for Mountainview, which will head into 2020 at 13-12-2.
