HJHL Roundup - Dec. 13

Scott Fisher

Flyers 11, Stampeders 0

Deuces were wild in High River on Friday.

Conner Taylor, Jakob Jefferies and Osten Barnhart scored a pair of goals apiece as the Flyers blew out the Stampeders.

Josh Russo and Michael McTighe had a goal and four points each and Jharin Bantugan and Brennan McPherson scored and finished with three points apiece.

Goaltender Parker Sawka made 31 saves to pick up the shutout while Josh Conley rounded out the scoring.

High River (8-14-3) visits Rocky on Saturday night (8:30 p.m.).

Thunder 4, Wranglers 1

The Airdrie Techmation Thunder spread around the offence on Friday night.

Kyle Bracko, Luke Jensen, Carson McGinnis and Tristan Paquette dented the twine as the Thunder beat the visiting Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

Thunder head coach Derek Stamp liked what he saw from his squad, especially in the final frame.

"Our structure had been a bit loose and soft plays were giving them lots of chances," Stamp said of his club's 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. "They are a very disciplined team and execute their game plan well.

"We talked in the second intermission about how the team with the better details was going to be successful and we needed to make a statement about our game.

"The guys came out and played a great third (period). We really controlled the game both offensively and defensively."

After being outshot 24-22 through two periods, the Thunder held a 17-6 advantage over the final 20 minutes and scored the only two goals of the period.

Justin Fedoruk kicked out 29 pucks for the win.

Taite Opdendries replied for the Wranglers.

Airdrie (19-4-1) visits Strathmore on Sunday afternoon (4:45 p.m.).

Sylvan Lake welcomes Ponoka on Sunday night (8 p.m.).

Colts 5, Rams 2

It was a rough start, but the Colts finished strong.

Mountainview trailed Rocy 2-0 after the first period before responding with five unanswered goals.

Josh Gette scored twice and added an assist while Mitchell Visser, Alan Klinck and Logan Richards chipped in with singles.

Ryan Chambers and Landon Siegle replied for the Rams.

The Colts (11-11-1) travel to Red Deer on Saturday night (8 p.m.) for a battle for third place in the North Division.

The Rams (7-17-0) host High River on Saturday night (8:30 p.m.).
