HJHL Roundup - Dec. 7

HJHL Roundup - Dec. 7

Scott Fisher

Copperheads 7, Wheatland Kings 2

The final score might not be much of an indication, but this game was tight until the second half.

In fact, the Copperheads needed to overcome a pair of deficits and didn't take their first lead until just past the midpoint, as Coaldale reeled off six straight goals.

Isaac Benoit scored twice, including the eventual game-winner, and added a pair of helpers to beat his former team.

Brandyn Howg and Jayden Bexte also scored twice and had an assist while Ty Abbott chipped in with a single.

Wacy Sundum and Garret Vander Ploeg replied for Strathmore (8-14-0), which will host Okotoks on Sunday afternoon (4:45 p.m.).

Broc Merkl made 38 saves for the Copperheads (15-8-1), who will travel to Sylvan Lake on Sunday night (8 p.m.).

Wranglers 5, Flyers 2

Brett Westin potted a pair to spark Sylvan Lake's attack.

Braidon Westin also found the net and added a pair of helpers while Wade Lightburn and Sloan Garritty rounded out the scoring for the Wranglers, who sit alone in second place in the HJHL's North Division (14-10-0).

Jake Snashall and Josh Russo replied for the Flyers (7-14-3), who host Ponoka next Friday (8 p.m.).

Sylvan Lake hosts Coaldale on Sunday night (8 p.m.).
