HJHL Roundup - Dec. 6

Scott Fisher

Vipers 7, Flyers 6 (OT)

Justin Paarup scored on a rare penalty shot in overtime as the Vipers edged the Flyers.

Paarup, who finished with three assists, also set up Connor Sullivan's second of the night with 2:46 remaining in regulation time to force sudden death.

Elijah Johanson, Austin Gallant, Jace Paarup and Rylan Burns also scored for Red Deer.

Layne Sniher sparked High River's offence with four assists.

Brennan McPherson and Brandt Black scored a pair each while Chase Groeneveld and Jakob Jefferies chipped in with singles for the Flyers.

Red Deer (11-9-0) hosts Stettler on Saturday night (8 p.m.).

High River (7-13-3) welcomes Sylvan Lake on Saturday night (8 p.m.).

Thunder 16, Lakers 3

The Airdrie Techmation Thunder flexed their offensive muscles on Friday night.

Jordan McConnell and Nathan Fox both scored hat tricks and finished with four points apiece as the Thunder blasted the Lomond Lakers 16-3.

Brayden Dunn had a goal and six points and Tristan Paquette potted a pair and had a five-point night as Airdrie outshot the visitors 49-21.

Tyler Petrie, Caleb Reed and Cody Brodhagen scored twice apiece and Chase Ziegler also found the back of the net for the Thunder (18-4-0), who visit the Medicine Hat Cubs on Sunday afternoon (5 p.m.).

"Obviously, we were really good offensively," Thunder head coach Derek Stamp said. "We got goals from Reed and Ziegler, which was great.

"It was a good result but now we've moved onto our next game.

"We know our structure and details will need to be strong when we play in Medicine Hat on Sunday."

Clayton Billyard, with a pair, and Peyton White Quills replied for the Lakers (2-19-0), who host Rocky on Saturday night (7:30 p.m.).
