Wheatland Kings 5, Vipers 3

The Wheatland Kings powerplay was on fire on Saturday night.

Strathmore scored three times with the man advantage in a 5-3 victory over the Vipers.

Kody Hammond scored twice and added two assists while Jett Miller also potted a pair in the win.

Garret Vander Ploeg scored and finished with three points for the Wheatland Kings (8-13-0).

Keaton Sawicki scored twice as part of a three-point night while Ethan Schlag rounded out the offence for the Vipers (9-9-0), who host Rocky on Monday (7:45 p.m.).

Strathmore travels to Coaldale next Saturday (8:30 p.m.).

Copperheads 6, Lakers 3

Never turn your back on the Snakes — especially in Coaldale.

The Lakers had a 3-2 lead in the third period but the Copperheads struck four times in just over eight minutes to chalk up the 6-3 win.

Brandyn Howg's second of the night tied it 3-3 at the 11:33 mark before Mason Sande's first of two just 1:28 later put the hosts on top.

Isaac Benoit and Tyler Anderson rounded out the scoring for Coaldale (14-8-1), who hosts Strathmore next Saturday (8:30 p.m.).

Aaron Areshenko, Clayton Billyard and Sean De Visser replied for Lomond (2-18-0), who visit Airdrie next Friday (8 p.m.).

Thunder 4, Colts 2

The Thunder are padding their lead atop the HJHL's North Division standings.

Brayden Dunn scored a pair of goals, including a shorthanded marker, as the Airdrie Techmation Thunder doubled up the Mountainview Colts 4-2.

Dunn has five goals in the past two games.

Tristan Paquette's powerplay goal stood up as the game-winner and Jordan McConnell also scored for Airdrie.

Jackson Little made 29 saves for the win as the Thunder (16-4-0) moved 10 points clear of the second-place Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

Josh Gette and Bryce Gray replied for the Colts (10-9-1), who sit one point back of the Wranglers.

Airdrie wraps a busy three-in-three with a matinee meeting Sunday afternoon in High River (2:30 p.m.).
