Thunder 6, Copperheads 2
Brayden Dunn was just happy to get the monkey off his back last week.
He must have tossed that primate pretty far because it was nowhere to be seen on Friday night as Dunn scored a hat trick.
Reigning HJHL scoring champ Jordan McConnell had a goal and four assists as the Airdrie Techmation Thunder beat the visiting Coaldale Copperheads 6-2.
Thunder bench boss Derek Stamp said Dunn has made a big difference to the club's special teams.
"It seem to be clicking for him," Stamp said. "It just gives a whole other element to our powerplay.
"Having him out there on the point gives us one more weapon out there."
Tristan Paquette had a goal and two helpers and Nathan Fox also found the back of the net as the Thunder improved to 15-4-0, good for top spot in the HJHL's North Division.
Airdrie visits the Mountainview Colts on Saturday (8 p.m.) before travelling to High River to battle the Flyers on Sunday afternoon (2:30 p.m.).
Bisons 4, Flyers 0
The Bisons, apparently, didn't care for the taste of losing.
After having its season-opening 20-game win streak snapped last weekend in Ponoka, Okotoks rebounded to blank the rival High River Flyers 4-0.
Goaltender Devin Reagan, who didn't play in the loss, stopped all 30 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season.
Tyson Scott, who leads the HJHL in goals and points, and Tyler Witzke had a goal and an assist apiece in the victory.
Tyler Alger and Austin O'Bray also lit the lamp for the Bisons, who host the Rocky Rams on Sunday (1:15 p.m.).
High River (7-11-2) is at Cochrane on Saturday (7:30 p.m.) before welcoming Airdrie on Sunday afternoon (2:30 p.m.).
Lightning 7, Wheatland Kings 3
Rhett Shingoose potted a pair of goals and Brendan Bardwell scored once and added two helpers to lead the Lightning attack.
Tanner Colhoun, Matt Sylvester, Erik Rost and The Mulgrove also bent the twine for Stettler.
Will Kathol scored and had an assist for the Wheatland Kings, who also received goals from Braden Tanner and Thomas Tyson.
Strathmore (7-13-0) welcomes Red Deer on Saturday (8 p.m.) while Stettler (7-12-1) hosts Ponoka on Saturday (7:30 p.m.).
