HJHL Roundup - Nov. 2

Scott Fisher

Thunder 8, Stampeders 3

The Airdrie Techmation Thunder are starting to roll.

Nathan Fox scored a pair of shorthanded goals, including the game-winner, as the Thunder beat the Stampeders 8-3 Saturday night in Ponoka.

Six other players chipped in with a goal apiece as the Thunder (9-3-0) won their fifth straight and moved into top spot in the HJHL's North Division.

Thunder bench boss Derek Stamp liked what he saw from his special teams, which also produced a trio of powerplay markers, but said his squad still has some thing to clean up.

"It was a strong game for us offensively, but our play without the puck is nowhere near the level it needs to be at to be considered one of the top teams in the league," Stamp said.

"We will continue to stress the details and structure necessary and look to improve that aspect of our game."

Tyler Petrie, Cody Brodhagen, Jonny Lake, Dane Bennett-Nimijean, Jordan McConnell and Brayden Dunn also scored for Airdrie, which visits the Sylvan Lake Wranglers on Sunday (8 p.m.).

Generals 6, Rams 1

Patrick Forde scored a pair of goals as the Cochrane Generals beat the Rams 6-1 in Rocky on Saturday.

Zach Cugnet, Scott Shugg, Jordan Fisher and Jordan Marks also scored for the Generals (10-4-1), who have won six of their past seven games.

Landon Siegle was the only Rams player to solve Jordan Lott, who booted out 34 of 35 shots for the win.

Cochrane's plus-30 goal differential is second-best in the league behind only the Okotoks Bisons (plus-57).
