Bisons survive scare

The Medicine Hat Cubs gave the Okotoks Bisons all they could handle, and a little bit more.

But the Bisons pulled it out of the fire in the shootout to leave Medicine Hat with a 2-1 victory and their perfect (12-0-0) record intact.

Ryan Bedard gave Okotoks a 1-0 lead in the opening period and it looked like it would hold up as the game-winner, but Chandler Aleman potted the equalizer with 40 seconds left in regulation time.

Brennan Schwark and Austin O'Bray scored in the shootout while Noah Irvine replied for the Cubs (5-2-2).

The High River Flyers visit Medicine Hat next Friday while Okotoks hosts the Coaldale Copperheads.

Thunder 8 Vipers 5

Cody Brodhagen scored four goals and Tyler Petrie also scored a hat trick as the Airdrie Techmation Thunder beat the Red Deer Vipers 8-5 on Saturday.

Jordan McConnell also scored as the Thunder jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

"We came out strong and scored a lot early," said Thunder head coach Derek Stamp. "We had our powerplay clicking and were able to capitalize on some early Red Deer penalties.

"But you know you're playing in Red Deer and it's only a matter of time, it seems, until everything evens out.

"They kept pushing and closed the gap."

Keaton Sawicki, Ethan Schlag and Kolby Ringdahl brought the hosts to within a goal.

But the Thunder responded.

"It's a credit to our players," Stamp said. "We stayed on point, managed the adversity and came away with the two points."

Rylan Burns and Austin Gallant also lit the lamp for Red Deer (4-5-0), which dropped its fifth straight game.

The Thunder improved to 8-3-0, good for top spot in the HJHL's North Division.

Copperheads 10 Lightning 3

Mason Sande scored twice and added a trio of helpers as the Coaldale Copperheads blasted the Stettler Lightning 10-3.

Isaac Benoit had two goals and two assists while Jayden Bexte had five assists for Coaldale (8-3-1).

Brandyn Howg also sniped a pair of goals while Kaden Shield, Tyler Anderson, James Halverson and Ty Abbott chipped in with singles.

Austin Jacobson, Brenden Tucker and The Mulgrove replied for the Lightning (4-6-0), who host the Lomond Lakers on Friday.

The Copperheads visit Okotoks on Friday.
