Thunder edge Colts in shootout

It was probably one of the slowest goals Tristan Paquette has ever scored.

And one of the biggest.

With the Airdrie Techmation Thunder and Mountainview Colts locked in a 5-5 tie — and deadlocked 1-1 in the shootout — Paquette skated in with the game on his stick.

The Thunder veteran's shot squeezed through Colts goaltender Griffin Andrews and then slowly trickled over the line for the winner.

"I was turning away and saw it trickling in. It was lucky, but you have to be good to be lucky," Paquette said said with a laugh.

"The last game (an 8-1 loss to Okotoks) wasn't our best so it was good to come out and get the two points."

The Colts outshot the Thunder 43-30.

Tyler Petrie had two goals and an assist and also found the back of the net in the shootout.

Reigning HJHL scoring champ Jordan McConnell, playing for the first time this season, scored once added a pair of helpers.

Jonathan Lake and Cody Brodhagen also lit the lamp for the hosts.

Josh Gette forced extra time by potting the equalizer on the powerplay with 1:12 to play in regulation time.

Alan Klinck, Zane Leatherdale, Sam Vanderstoop and Caden Switzer provided the rest of the offence for the Colts, who still lead the North Division at 5-1-1.

Mountainview hosts the Lomond Lakers (0-7-0) Saturday night (8 p.m.).

The Thunder (5-3-0) visit the Stettler Lightning (4-4-0) on Sunday afternoon (3:30 p.m.) before hosting the Strathmore Wheatland Kings next Friday (8 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena).
