The Airdrie Techmation Thunder picked the right time to play their best game of the season.

Four different players scored twice each as the Thunder beat the Copperheads 9-7 in Coaldale on Saturday night.

Dane Bennett-Nimijean, Tyler Petrie, Cody Brodhagen and Tristan Paquette potted a pair apiece in a rematch of last year's HJHL final.

Kyle Bracko also scored as Airdrie improved to 4-2-0 and a tie for top spot in the North Division.

Tyler Anderson and Isaac Benoit scored twice each while Dallas Bodnar, Jayden Bexte and Jedd Horvath chipped in with singles for the Copperheads (2-2-0).

Thunder head coach Derek Stamp said Saturday's tilt might have been an exciting one for the fans, but it wasn't exactly textbook hockey.

"Some really nice play and some really poor decisions," Stamp said. "That sums it all up. There was more good than bad and we'll take the two points.

"It's a lot easier to be on the right side of a game like this. It helps to put a bit more focus on the good things we did as a team."

The Copperheads head to Medicine Hat for the Cubs' much-awaited home opener on Sunday (2:15 p.m.).

The Thunder will face their stiffest challenge yet when they welcome the unbeaten Okotoks Bisons to the Ron Ebbessen Arena on Friday (8 p.m.).
