Aab, Generals stave off elimination

COCHRANE – A five-goal third period sparked the Cochrane Generals to a wild 6-5 win over the Coaldale Copperheads on Sunday night, as they staved off elimination in Game 4 of the best-of-seven South Division Final series.

Brandan Aab finished with three goals on the night, including two in the final frame, a period that featured eight goals in total as the Generals now trail in the series 3-1.

Coaldale led 4-1 past the midway mark of the period, before the Generals would score five times in the final 6:22 of the game, including Braden Bain’s game-winner with 44 seconds remaining.

Chad Chudleigh and Chris Sambrook rounded out the Cochrane attack, while Jordan Marks finished the night with four helpers. Knute Loe made 34 saves between the pipes.

Jayden Smith led the charge for Coaldale with a goal and two assists, while goaltender Nolan Berner turned aside 36-of-42 shots fired his way. Jaren Bainbridge, Jayden Bexte, Brandyn Howg and Turner Sharp each added a single.

Coaldale will have another shot to close out the series, this time on home ice Wednesday evening at 8:00pm.
