Thunder complete sweep over Wranglers

BLACKFALDS – A first-round bye didn’t slow the Airdrie Thunder down one bit as they cruised to a four-game sweep over the Blackfalds Wranglers in their North Division semifinal series, taking Game 4 by a 9-0 score.

The Thunder outscored the Wranglers 26-5 in the series, including 32-2 over the final three games.

Zachary Giroux and Tyler Petrie each scored twice for the Thunder on Sunday, while Benjamin Orde, Rylan Plante-Crough, Cooper Page and Tristan Paquette each finished with a goal and two helpers.

Brayden Dunn rounded out the scoring, while Ryan Simpson stopped all 19 shots he faced to record the shutout.

The Thunder will now face-off with the winner of the Red Deer Vipers versus Mountainview Colts series. The Vipers are currently leading the best-of-seven series 3-0 with Game 4 going Monday night.
