Nevil, Copperheads get past Cubs in Game 3 overtime

COALDALE – Riese Nevil scored 1:49 into overtime to give the Coaldale Copperheads a 2-1 victory over the Medicine Hat Cubs, giving them a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven South Division semifinal series.

Brant Mack opened the scoring on a shorthanded effort with just 2:39 remaining in the first period, giving Coaldale a 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period and most of the third period, Jack Hilworth was able to find the back of the net for the Cubs with 2:12 left in regulation, sending the game to overtime for the second time in the series.

Nolan Berner was rock solid in the crease for Coaldale, stopping 31 of the 32 shots that were fired his way, while Brett Vanderveer finished with 29 saves in the loss for the Cubs.

The series shifts back to Medicine Hat for Game 4 on Monday. Puck drop at the Kinplex goes at 7:30pm.
