Extra time was needed in Big Valley and Strathmore on a five-game Saturday across the HJHL.

Mountainview Colts (3) – Stettler Lightning (2)

BIG VALLEY – Josh Gette scored once in regulation and then added the shootout winner as the Mountainview Colts skated away with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over the Stetter Lightning.

Gette finished with three points on the night as he added an assist on Mitchell Visser’s tally.

Kieran Rost and Reagan Holmes tallied for the Lightning.

Both goaltenders finished with 37 saves on the day, as Griffin Andrews turned aside 37-of-39 shots to earn the win for the Colts, while Indiana Kelly suffered the loss for the Lightning, facing 40 shots in the game.

Strathmore Wheatland Kings (2) – High River Flyers (1)

STRATHMORE – Tyler Skehar found the back of the net in the fourth round of the shootout, propelling the Strathmore Wheatland Kings to a 2-1 victory over the High River Flyers.

Garrett Vander Ploeg scored the lone goal of regulation for the Wheatland Kings, opening the scoring 8:20 into the middle stanza.

Liam Thiessen found the equalizer for the Flyers with 1:17 remaining in the second period, then added their lone shootout goal in the first round.

Riley Stovka turned aside 26 shots to record the victory in net for the Wheatland Kings, while Chantz Vinck was sensational in the Flyers crease, stopping 40-of-41 shots in a losing effort.

Coaldale Copperheads (5) – Okotoks Bisons (2)

COALDALE – Goals from five different skaters and a 36-save performance from netminder Nolan Berner paced the Coaldale Copperheads to a 5-2 win over the Okotoks Bisons.

Mitchell Konschuk, Jedd Horvath and Ty Abbott each found the back of the net in the opening frame for Coaldale, while Levi Anderson added a power-play marker in the middle stanza and Tyler Anderson scored an empty-netter with just 14 seconds left in the game.

Kody Briggs and Devyn Stewart had the goals for Okotoks, which got 31 saves from Devin Reagan.

Medicine Hat Cubs (7) – Lomond Lakers (1)

BASSANO – Cooper Hilworth scored twice and setup two more as the Medicine Hat Cubs skated to a 7-1 win over the Lomond Lakers.

Logan Robertson, Noah Irvine, Quinten Karg, Tristan Stensrud and Mackenzie Fritzler each added a single to the scoreboard for the Cubs, which saw their goaltender, Martyn Clift, stop 19-of-20 shots faced.

Clayton Billyard had the lone goal for Lomond, making it a 1-1 game with 2:15 left in the opening frame.

Red Deer Vipers (16) – Three Hills Thrashers (0)

RED DEER – Keaton Sawicki opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the game and the Red Deer Vipers did not look back from there, cruising to a 16-0 victory over the Three Hills Thrashers.

Keagan Kingwell finished with a game-high seven points, scoring once and added six assists, while teammate Ryan Vanderlis finished with a goal and four assists.

Cody Jackson and Justin Pearup each had a hat trick for the Vipers, while Justin Anderson made 18 saves to record the shutout.

Mack Differenz and Aidan Wilson each had a two-goal, two-assist games, while Connor Sullivan and Body Kalinowski each scored once and setup three others.
