Four games on the HJHL schedule on Saturday, three of which decided by just one goal, including an overtime thriller in Red Deer.
Red Deer Vipers (5) – Stettler Lightning (4)
RED DEER – Justin Pearup scored three times, including the game-winner with 31 seconds remaining in overtime, to power the Red Deer Vipers to an exciting 5-4 win over the Stettler Lightning.
Keaton Sawicki scored once and setup two more, while Mack Differenz added a single to round out the Red Deer (20-6-1) scoring.
Jonathan Fournier, Jeff Ternes, Erik Rost and Ethan Rost provided the offence for Stettler (13-10-4), which held a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Justin Travis registered the victory between the pipes, stopping 20-of-21 shots in just over 50 minutes of relief work.
Indiana Kelly made 23 saves in the Stettler crease.
Cochrane Generals (5) – Coaldale Copperheads (4)
COALDALE – Braden Bain scored twice and added one assist as the Cochrane Generals were 5-4 winners over the Coaldale Copperheads.
River Ross, Brandon Aab and Scott Schugg rounded out the scoring for Cochrane (18-7-2), which have now won six straight games.
Brant Mack, Ty Abbott, Tyler Anderson and Jayden Smith responded for Coaldale (23-4-2), which trailed by as much as 4-1 and 5-2 before making it a game in the later stages of the third period.
Erik Garber made 29 saves for Cochrane, earning his eighth win of the season.
Nolan Berner took the loss in the Coaldale crease, finishing with 21 saves on the night.
Ponoka Stampeders (3) – Lomond Lakers (2)
CLARESHOLM – Devin Anderson broke a 2-2 tie with 3:42 remaining in the third period as the Ponoka Stampeders held on for a 3-2 win over the Lomond Lakers.
Seth Eckert and Steven Strizich also each found the back of the net for the Stampeders (9-16-2), while Brandon Clark stopped 24-of-26 shots fired his way between the pipes.
Will Kathol and Tyler Rohl had the goals for Lomond (5-24-0), which got a spectacular 48-save performance from netminder Brady Newton.
Okotoks Bisons (5) – Medicine Hat Cubs (2)
MEDICINE HAT – A three-goal third period powered the Okotoks Bisons to a 5-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Cubs.
Tied 2-2 after 20 minutes, Jason Horn, Nicholas Murrell and Connor Taylor each found the back of the net for the Bisons (20-5-3) in the final frame.
Tyler Bordt had the other two goals for Okotoks, both power-play markers, while Devin Reagan made 26 saves, recording his 14th victory of the season along the way.
Mason Fischer and Cooper Hilworth provided the offence for the Cubs (13-12-3), the latter of which coming on a shorthanded effort.
Brett Vanderveer turned aside 31 shots in the loss.
