Four games on Sunday closed out an exciting week across the Heritage Junior Hockey League.
Coaldale Copperheads (5) – Strathmore Wheatland Kings (3)
STRATHMORE – Jayden Smith scored twice and setup another as the Coaldale Copperheads made it six straight victories with a 5-3 win over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings on Sunday afternoon.
Levi Anderson, Jared Bainbridge and Ty Abbott rounded out the scoring for Coaldale (18-3-2), each netting a goal and assist, while Broc Merkl finished with 20 saves between the pipes.
Rylee Hebert, Calvin Vergouwen and Bailey Filkohazy responded for Strathmore (11-10-2), which have now dropped four straight.
Brett Willan turned aside 33 shots in the loss.
Blackfalds Wranglers (6) – Ponoka Stampeders (1)
BLACKFALDS – Braden Olsen led the way with a pair of goals and one assist as the Blackfalds Wranglers prevailed with a 6-1 win over the Ponoka Stampeders.
Zachary Zaparniuk also finished with a three-point outing for Blackfalds (6-8-5), scoring once and setting up two more, while Taite Opdendries, McKoy Kahlert and Beaudon Rider each chipped in with a single apiece.
Maxim Currie finished with 27 saves to register the win between the pipes for the Wranglers, which held leads of 3-0 after 20 minutes and 5-0 going into the third period.
Isaiah Deschamps-Cross scored the lone goal for Ponoka (6-12-2), while Keenan Starkell made 33 saves in the loss.
Cochrane Generals (9) – Lomond Lakers (1)
CLARESHOLM – Caden Chudliegh and Chris Sambrook each found the back of the net twice as the Cochrane Generals rolled to a 9-1 win over the Lomond Lakers.
Three different players recorded three-point games as Taylor Girard and Keenan McElroy each finished with one goal and two assists, while Braden Bain added three helpers.
Jaeden Dowling, Harry Osler and Takuro Okada rounded out the Cochrane (12-6-2) attack, while Erik Garber turned aside 14-of-15 shots fired his way.
Kirk Fraser scored the only goal of the game for the Lakers (5-18-0), which now see their losing streak sit at eight straight.
Okotoks Bisons (9) – Medicine Hat Cubs (0)
OKOTOKS – Devin Reagan recorded his league-leading fourth shutout of the season as the Okotoks Bisons cruised to a 9-0 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs.
Reagan stopped all 37 shots he faced, while Brandt Black led the way offensively with a three-goal, one-assist performance.
Travis Scott and Mitch Wolfe added a goal and two assists apiece for the Bisons (16-3-2), while Joel Deeprose finished with three helpers of his own.
Devyn Stewart, Evan Woods, Nicholas Murrell and Luc Thorimbert rounded out the scoring.
Okotoks scored six times on the man-advantage in the game.
