Sunday Funday saw four games across the Heritage Junior Hockey League.
Red Deer Vipers (3) – Lomond Lakers (1)
CLARESHOLM – Justin Travis stopped 20-of-21 shots as the Red Deer Vipers held on for a 3-1 victory over the Lomond Lakers.
After a scoreless first period, Keaton Sawicki opened the scoring 1:10 into the middle frame, giving the Vipers (12-5-1) a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Clayton Billyard found the equalizer for Lomond (5-14-0) early in the third period, but the Vipers would regain the lead just 46-seconds after on a goal from Nicholas Scott.
Mack Differenz sealed the deal with an empty-netter in the final minute to give Red Deer its seventh straight victory.
Brady Newton was solid in the Lakers crease, making 45 saves on the day.
Okotoks Bisons (6) – Ponoka Stampeders (3)
OKOTOKS – Six different skaters found the back of the net as the Okotoks Bisons used a balanced attack to take a 6-3 win over the Ponoka Stampeders.
Bryan Weber led the Bisons (15-2-2) with a goal and two assists, while Jagger Thiessen and Devyn Stewart each chipped in with a goal and one helper.
Mitch Wolfe, Nic Jordan and Austin O’Bray rounded out the Okotoks scoring, while Matthew Baba recorded the win between the pipes.
Odin Obray factored in on all three goals for the Stampeders (2-11-2), scoring one of them and setting up the others off the sticks of Ryan Harder and Steven Strizich.
Brandon Clark suffered the loss in net, stopping 51 shots along the way.
Coaldale Copperheads (4) – Strathmore Wheatland Kings (0)
COALDALE – Nolan Berner stopped all 32 shots he faced to register his second shutout of the season as the Coaldale Copperheads were 4-0 winners over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings.
Levi Anderson led the way for the Copperheads (13-3-2), scoring twice and adding two assists, while Jared Bainbridge and Jayden Smith rounded out the scoring.
Brett Willan made 47 saves in the Strathmore (10-7-1) crease.
Airdrie Thunder (8) – Blackfalds Wranglers (2)
BLACKFALDS – The Airdrie Thunder got back on track Sunday afternoon with an 8-2 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers.
Special teams were a factor in the game, as the Thunder (19-1-0) went four-for-six on the man-advantage as well as adding two shorthanded markers.
Michael Dubois scored three times for Airdrie, while Brayden Dunn added a goal and two helpers.
Jason Wenzel, Jackson Gibson, Dane Bennett-Nimijean and Zachary Giroux each added a single, while Jackson Little improved to 10-0-0 on the season with a 21-save performance.
Taite Opdendries had both goals for the Wranglers (4-8-4).
