HJHL Roundup: November 13

Stettler and Strathmore skated away with two points apiece on a two-game Tuesday in the HJHL.

Stettler Lightning (5) – Blackfalds Wranglers (4)

STETTLER – A 39-save performance from Davin Nattestad propelled the Stettler Lightning to a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Blackfalds Wranglers on Tuesday evening.

Brenden Tucker and Kieran Rost each found the back of the net in the opening frame to give the Lightning (7-7-0) a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes, whoever Taite Opdendries and Curtis Rangen replied for the Wranglers (3-7-4) in the middle stanza, making it a 2-2 game going into the third period.

Stettler reeled off three unanswered goals to open the final frame, as Logan Spady and Quade Cassidy each tallied on the man-advantage, while Tye Mulgrove added a shorthanded marker.

Brett Westin and Dylan Scheunert would cut the deficit to just one for Blackfalds, but it was too little, too late.

Lane Brann kicked aside 34 shots in the Wranglers crease.

Strathmore Wheatland Kings (6) – Three Hills Thrashers (2)

THREE HILLS – Isaac Benoit scored three times to pace the Strathmore Wheatland Kings to a 6-2 win over the Three Hills Thrashers.

Bailey Filkohazy, Eric Sandum and Zachary Meadows rounded out the scoring for Strathmore (9-6-1), which held leads of 3-1 after 20 minutes and 5-1 going into the third period.

Brett Willan recorded the win between the pipes, stopping 27 saves along the way.

Thrashers (1-14-0) goaltender Devon Carroll turned aside 62 shots in the loss.
