It was a quiet Friday night in the HJHL as the Cubs and Thunder skated away with victories.

Airdrie Thunder (6) – Stettler Lightning (3)

STETTLER – Brayden Dunn scored twice and added one assist as the Airdrie Thunder skated to a 6-3 win over the Stettler Lightning on Friday.

Jordan McConnell added a goal and two assists for the Thunder (17-0-0), while goaltender Ryan Simpson recorded the win between the pipes, stopping 20 shots along the way.

Rylan Plante-Crough, Brett Campbell and Kirkland Spencer rounded out the scoring for Airdrie, which outscored Stettler (5-7-0) by a two-to-one margin in each period.

Erik Rost had two of the three goals for the Lightning, while Logan Spady added his second of the season.

Jason Wenzel registered three assists for Airdrie.

Medicine Hat Cubs (6) – High River Flyers (1)

HIGH RIVER – Two goals off the stick of Noah Irvine paced the Medicine Hat Cubs to a 6-1 win over the High River Flyers on Friday evening.

Quinten Karg, Brayden MacDonell, Chandler Aleman and Tristan Stensrud rounded out the scoring for Medicine Hat (6-7-2), which scored four times in the middle stanza to take a 5-1 lead into the final frame.

Martyn Clift recorded 37 saves in the Cubs’ crease to register the victory, while Joshua Schafer chipped in with three assists.

Mitchell Bosch had the lone goal for the Flyers (6-10-2).
