It was an exciting four-game Friday night in the HJHL, highlighted by a big third period from the Red Deer Vipers.

Red Deer Vipers (4) – Medicine Hat Cubs (2)

MEDICINE HAT – Mack DIfferenz scored twice as the Red Deer Vipers scored four times in the final 11 minutes of the third period to come from behind and take a 4-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Cubs.

Differenz tied the game with 8:16 remaining in the final frame on his second goal of the period, while Connor Sullivan gave the Vipers (7-5-1) their first lead of the game 27-seconds later.

Keaton Sawicki led all skaters with three points, as he iced the game with an empty-netter while also adding two assists.

Justin Anderson turned aside 27 shots in net for the Vipers, recording his fifth win of the season along the way, while his counterpart at the other end of the rink, Brett Vanderveer, finished with 36 saves on the night.

Mackenzie Fritzler and Cooper Hilworth provided the offence for the Cubs (4-7-2).

Stettler Lightning (6) – Three Hills Thrashers (2)

THREE HILLS – Quade Cassidy and Erik Rost combined for eight points as the Stettler Lightning were 6-2 winners over the Three Hills Thrashers.

Cassidy and Rost each finished with a goal and three helpers as the Lightning (4-6-0) erased a 2-1 deficit after 20 minutes with five unanswered goals to close out the game.

Rylee Jacobson, Jeff Ternes, Reagan Holmes and Braydon Whiteford rounded out the Stettler attack, while Davin Nattestad turned aside 37 shots between the pipes.

Kevin Schrook and Marshall Wilson each found the back of the net in the opening frame for the Thrashers (1-10-0), which got 37 saves from netminder Devon Carroll.

Airdrie Thunder (8) – Lomond Lakers (2)

AIRDRIE – Despite a sensational performance from goaltender Brady Newton, the Airdrie Thunder were once again too much to handle as they skated to an 8-2 win over the Lomond Lakers.

Newton finished with 67-saves in the Lakers (4-8-0) crease, including 28 in the final 20 minutes alone.

Rylan Plante-Crough scored twice and setup two more, while Jordan McConnell and Cooper Page each finished with two goals and one assist as the Thunder (15-0-0) remain unbeaten on the season.

Tristan Paquette and Tyler McCarry rounded out the scoring.

Bailey Daychief and Ryan Leeper had the goals for Lomond.

Cochrane Generals (10) – Blackfalds Wranglers (2)

COCHRANE – Nine different skaters found the back of the net as the Cochrane Generals extended their winning streak to four games with a convincing 10-2 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers on Friday evening.

Braden Bain led the way with a four-point night, scoring twice and setting up two others, while Harry Osler added a goal and two assists.

Chris Sambrook, Ben Davison, Vance Wesley and Brandon Aab each chipped in with a goal and assist, while River Ross, Justin Berube and Sam Norris rounded out the Cochrane (6-4-0) attack, each netting a single.

Taite Opdendries and Braidon Westin replied for the Wranglers (3-5-3).

Robert Michetti recorded the win between the pipes, stopping 26-of-28 shots faced.
