Stellar goaltending led the Lakers to victory, while Wheatland Kings extended their winning streak to four on a two-game Sunday in the HJHL.

Lomond Lakers (3) – Blackfalds Wranglers (2)

BLACKFALDS – Clayton Billyard scored the lone goal of the shootout to lift the Lomond Lakers to a 3-2 victory over the Blackfalds Wranglers.

Tyler Rohl scored both goals in regulation for the Lakers (4-7-0), while goaltender Brady Newton was sensational between the pipes, stopping 50-of-52 shots faced, not including all three shootout attempts against.

Taite Opdendries and Zachary Zaparniuk had the goals for the Wranglers (3-4-3), which got 23 saves from netminder Maxim Currie.

Strathmore Wheatland Kings (5) – Medicine Hat Cubs (2)

MEDICINE HAT – Brett Willan made 48 saves as the Strathmore Wheatland Kings skated to a 5-2 victory over the Medicine Hat Cubs.

Five different skaters found the back of the net for the Wheatland Kings (7-4-1), as Tyler Wirth, Bailey Filkohazy, Cole Busslinger, Adrian Kusu and Garrett Vander Ploeg each tallied a single.

Strathmore held a 5-0 lead up until the midway mark of the third period when Jack Hilworth broke the goose egg and got the Cubs (4-6-2) on the board, and then added a shorthanded marker with 4:17 to go.
