Okotoks and Strathmore both skated away with thrilling victories on Saturday, highlighting a four-game night across the HJHL.
Okotoks Bisons (3) – Red Deer Vipers (2)
RED DEER – For the second straight night, it was the Okotoks Bisons that came out in front as they took the second half of the home-and-home with the Red Deer Vipers by a 3-2 score.
Devin Reagan made a season-high 42 saves, while Connor Taylor was the overtime hero, scoring 3:51 into the extra frame to give the Bisons (10-2-1) the victory.
Jagger Thiessen and Tyler Bordt rounded out the scoring for Okotoks, which trailed for the majority of the contest.
Mack Differenz and Tyrees Goodrunning provided the offence for the Vipers (5-5-1), while goaltender Justin Anderson finished with 27 saves.
Strathmore Wheatland Kings (3) – Medicine Hat Cubs (2)
STRATHMORE – Brett Willan made 32 saves as the Strathmore Wheatland Kings held on for a 3-2 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs on Saturday.
Hayden Vander Ploeg, Adrian Kusu and Robert Butterwick provided the offence for Strathmore (6-4-1), which held leads of 1-0 after 20 minutes and 2-1 going into the final frame.
Mackenzie Fritzler and Chandler Aleman had the goals for the Cubs (4-5-2).
Brett Vanderveer turned aside 24 shots in the loss for Medicine Hat.
Airdrie Thunder (8) – High River Flyers (3)
HIGH RIVER – A five-goal opening period paced the Airdrie Thunder to an 8-3 win over the High River Flyers on Saturday evening.
Brett Campbell led the charge with four points, scoring twice and setting up two more, while teammates Tristan Paquette, Brett LeGrandeur and Brayden Dunn each finished with two-goal games of their own.
Jackson Little made 21 saves to record the win between the pipes for Airdrie (14-0-0).
Jharin Bantugan, Braiden Burke and Brennan McPherson replied for High River (4-9-2), which got 53 saves from netminder Chantz Vinck.3
Cochrane Generals (8) – Lomond Lakers (0)
COCHRANE – River Ross had a pair of goals as the Cochrane Generals skated to an 8-0 shutout victory over the Lomond Lakers.
Robert Michetti stopped all 14 shots he faced in the Cochrane (5-4-0) crease, registering his first career HJHL shutout on the way.
Ryan Davis and Chris Sambrook led all skaters with three points apiece, each netting a goal and adding two assists.
Brandon Aab, Jordan Fisher, Ben Davison and Sam Norris rounded out the scoring for Cochrane, which held leads of 3-0 after 20 minutes and 6-0 after 40 minutes.
Theo Paskuski finished with 42 saves in the Lomond (3-7-) net.
