The Cubs and Wranglers went toe-to-toe in an overtime thriller to highlight a three-game Sunday across the HJHL.
Medicine Hat Cubs (7) – Blackfalds Wranglers (6)
BLACKFALDS – Chandler Aleman scored three times, including the game-winner 55 seconds into overtime to propel the Medicine Hat Cubs to a wild 7-6 victory over the Blackfalds Wranglers.
Aleman finished with three goals and one assist, as did teammate Tavin Straub, who tied the game at six with just 35 seconds remaining in regulation.
Fletcher Aleman had the other goal for the Cubs (4-4-2), which have now won three straight.
Braden Olson and Austin Lawson each finished with two goals and one assist for the Wranglers (2-4-2), while Taite Opdendries and Austin Kalev rounded out the scoring.
Strathmore Wheatland Kings (4) – High River Flyers (2)
STRATHMORE – Eric Sandum scored twice as the Strathmore Wheatland Kings were 4-2 winners of the High River Flyers on Sunday.
Rylee Hebert opened the scoring for Strathmore (5-4-1), while Sandum tallied both his goals exactly 40 seconds apart late in the middle frame.
Robert Butterwick added an empty-netter, while Riley Stovka turned aside 25 shots to record the win.
Chantz Vinck was busy in the High River (4-7-2) crease, while Tyler Alger and Zachary Mott provided the offence.
Cochrane Generals (6) – Red Deer Vipers (3)
COCHRANE – A three-goal game off the stick of Brandon Aab paced the Cochrane Generals to a 6-3 win over the Red Deer Vipers.
Braden Bain, River Ross and Jordan Marks each added a single for the Generals (4-4-0), which held a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes and a 6-2 cushion going into the final frame.
Keaton Sawicki had two goals for the Vipers (5-4-0), while Elijah Johanson rounded out the scoring.
Knute Loe came up big between the pipes for Cochrane, making 35 saves along the way.
