Three games were decided by just one goal, including a showdown between division leaders which highlighted a thrilling Friday across the HJHL.

Airdrie Thunder (3) – Okotoks Bisons (2)

AIRDRIE – Rylan Plante-Crough’s power-play marker with 2:13 remaining in the third period propelled the Airdrie Thunder to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Okotoks Bisons.

Trailing 2-0 late in the second period, Caleb Reed got the Thunder (10-0-0) on the board, while Jordan McConnell found the equalizer with 7:08 to play in the final frame.

Airdrie got a solid 40-save effort out of goaltender Ryan Simpson, who picked up his fifth win of the season along the way.

Devin Reagan had 35 saves for the Bisons (8-2-1), which got tallies from Devyn Stewart and Joel Deeprose.

Lomond Lakers (5) – High River Flyers (4)

HIGH RIVER – Adam Stafford scored the winner in the eighth round of the shootout as the Lomond Lakers won a thriller over the High River Flyers by a 5-4 score on Friday.

Kyle Fry scored twice for Lomond (3-4-0), while Chase Honess and Tyler Rohl each added a single.

Goaltender Brady Newton was rock solid between the pipes, stopping 46-of-50 shots on the night, as well as turning aside seven-of-eight shootout attempts faced.

Egor Sinko, Myles Leckie, Michael McTighe and Logan MacLean provided the offence for High River (4-5-2), which got 32 saves from Connor McCarroll.

Medicine Hat Cubs (5) – Cochrane Generals (4)

MEDICINE HAT – Tevin Straub had a three-point night, scoring the game-winner and adding two assists, as the Medicine Hat Cubs knocked off the Cochrane Generals by a score of 5-4.

With the game tied 4-4 after 40 minutes, it was Straub who found the back of the net shorthanded midway through the third period to put the Cubs (2-4-2) out in front for good.

Chandler Aleman finished with two goals for Medicine Hat, while Cooper Hilworth and Teagan Berko had the others.

Chris Sambrook replied for Cochrane (2-4-0) with two goals of his own, while Benjamin Davison and Taylor Girard rounded out the scoring.

Ryan Arrigo made 30 saves in the Medicine Hat crease to register the win in his first HJHL game.

Mountainview Colts (4) – Blackfalds Wranglers (1)

DIDSBURY – Ethan Woodward stole the show on Friday night, stopping 40-of-41 shots fired his way to lift his Mountainview Colts to a 4-1 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers.

Alan Klinck led the charge for the Colts (7-2-0) offensively with a goal and two helpers, while Trevor Simpson, Marshal Quartly and Kale Wright each added a single.

Kyle Imesch had the lone goal of the game for the Wranglers (2-4-1).

Strathmore Wheatland Kings (5) – Stettler Lightning (2)

STETTLER – Hanging onto a 1-0 lead to start the third period, the Strathmore Wheatland Kings offence came alive with four goals in the final frame as they took a 5-2 win over the Stettler Lightning.

After a scoreless first period, Hayden Vander Ploeg put the Wheatland Kings (4-4-1) out in front with the lone goal of the middle stanza, while Garret Vander Ploeg, Cole Busslinger, Robert Butterwick and Isaac Benoit each found the back of the net in the final 20 minutes.

Brett Willan recorded the win between the pipes, making 18 saves on the night.

Justin Fournier and Tye Mulgrove scored the goals for the Lightning (2-6-0), which got 40 saves from netminder Davin Nattestad.
