Airdrie and Okotoks continue to hold down the top spot in their respective division, while Lomond and Ponoka skated away with two points each on a four-game Sunday in the HJHL.
Ponoka Stampeders (4) – Medicine Hat Cubs (3)
MEDICINE HAT – Devin Anderson scored the overtime winner as the Ponoka Stampeders knocked off the Medicine Hat Cubs by a 4-3 score.
Isaiah Deschamps-Cross, Brandon Brockerville and Pierce Sorensen scored in regulation for the Stampeders (2-3-1), which trialed 3-1 going into the third period.
Chandler Aleman, Cooper Hilworth and Tavin Straub had the goals for the Cubs (1-4-2).
Brandon Clark earned the win between the pipes for Ponoka, stopping 45-of-48 shots on the day, while Brett Vanderveer made 34 saves at the other end of the ice.
Lomond Lakers (3) – High River Flyers (2)
CLARESHOLM – Gavin Burns scored the go-ahead goal with 3:22 remaining to lift the Lomond Lakers to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the High River Flyers.
Wacy Sandum and Clayton Billyard also found the back of the net for the Lakers (2-4-0), which got a sensational 42-save effort from netminder Brady Newton.
Tyler Alger and Jakob Jefferies had the goals for the Flyers (4-5-1), which led 2-1 after 40 minutes.
Connor McCarroll made 31 saves in the loss.
Airdrie Thunder (6) – Blackfalds Wranglers (3)
BLACKFALDS – A three-goal effort off the stick of Tristan Paquette paced the Airdrie Thunder to a 6-3 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers.
Jordan McConnell added a goal and two helpers to the scoreboard for Airdrie (9-0-0), which remains the lone unbeaten club in the HJHL this season.
Brett LeGrandeur and Dane Bennett-Nimijean rounded out the Thunder attack, while Jackson Little finished with 24 saves in net.
Lane Brann was busy in the Wranglers (2-3-1) crease, making 42 saves along the way, while Austin Lawson found the back of the net twice.
Taite Opdendries had the other goal for Blackfalds.
Okotoks Bisons (11) – Three Hills Thrashers (0)
OKOTOKS – Nine different players found the back of the net as the Okotoks Bisons cruised to an 11-0 win over the Three Hills Thrashers.
Jagger Thiessen and Austin O’Bray each finished with two goals, while Matthew Baba stopped all 13 shots he faced to record the shutout.
Thiessen, with two goals and two assists, and Kyle Harrison, with a goal and three helpers, led all skaters with four points apiece.
Brandt Black chipped in with a goal and two helpers, while Bryan Weber, Kody Briggs, Nicholas Lush, Nic Jordan and Devyn Stewart each added a single.
