It was a tough night for visiting clubs as home teams took four-of-five across the HJHL on Saturday.

Coaldale Copperheads (8) – Ponoka Stampeders (3)

COALDALE – A four-point night off the stick of Brandyn Howg paced the Coaldale Copperheads to an 8-3 victory over the Ponoka Stampeders.

Howg scored twice and setup two others, while teammate Levi Anderson also found the back of the net once and added one assist.

Tyler Anderson, Chase Williamson, Jared Bainbridge and Brant Mack rounded out the scoring for Coaldale (7-1-1), which got 25 saves from netminder Broc Merkl.

Kieran Bulloch, Pierce Sorensen and Devin Anderson replied for Ponoka (1-3-1).

Keenan Starkell tuned aside 43 shots in the losing effort.

Stettler Lightning (3) – Lomond Lakers (1)

STETTLER – Quade Cassidy factored in on all three goals as the Stettler Lightning edged the Lomond Lakers by a 3-1 score.

Davin Nattestad was solid between the pipes for Stettler (2-5-0), stopping 31-of-32 shots faced.

Cassidy finished with a goal and two helpers, while Jonathan Fournier and Reagan Holmes each added power-play markers to round-out the scoring.

Clayton Billyard scored the lone goal of the game for Lomond (1-4-0), which got a stellar 39-save performance from Theo Paskuski.

Red Deer Vipers (5) – Cochrane Generals (3)

RED DEER – Keagan Kingwell was the difference maker on Friday night, factoring in on all five Red Deer goals as the Vipers took a 5-3 win over the Cochrane Generals.

Kingwell scored twice and setup the three others, as Keaton Sawicki, Jacksyn Goodall and Tristyn Zarubiak each added a single.

Brody Kalinowski chipped in with three helpers for the Vipers (4-3-0), while goaltender Justin Travis recorded the win in net, stopping 18 shots along the way.

Harry Osler, Vance Wesley and Takuro Okada replied for the Generals (2-3-0), which got 29 saves out of goaltender Erik Garber.

Mountainview Colts (6) – Strathmore Wheatland Kings (0)

DIDSBURY – The Mountainview Colts made it four wins in a row after the blanked the Strathmore Wheatland Kings by a score of 6-0 on Saturday evening.

Ethan Woodward stopped all 33 shots he faced to register his first shutout of the season, and third of his HJHL career, while Alan Klinck led all skaters with three points, scoring once and setting up two others.

Laine Rothenbusch scored the lone goal of the first period to give the Colts (7-2-0) a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, while Klinck, Trey Wallace, Quintin Thorburn and Josh Gette would each find the back of the net in the middle stanza.

Matthew Myatt rounded out the scoring with a shorthanded marker late in the third period.

Airdrie Thunder (6) – Medicine Hat Cubs (1)

MEDICINE HAT – The one-two punch of Jordan McConnell and Rylan Plante-Crough was too much for the Medicine Hat Cubs on Saturday evening as the Airdrie Thunder skated to their eighth straight victory, taking a 6-1 win.

McConnell and Plante-Crough, the HJHL’s top two leading scorers, each finished with two goals and two assists on the night, while Michal Wojciechowski and Logan Rutherford rounded out the scoring for the Thunder (8-0-0).

Ryan Simpson stopped 14-of-15 shots to register his fourth win of the season.

Brett Vanderveer made 38 saves in the Cubs’ (1-4-1) crease, while Fletcher Aleman scored the lone goal.
