The Thunder remain unbeaten after a shutout win on Friday, highlighting an exciting four-game evening across the HJHL.
Airdrie Thunder (4) – Red Deer Vipers (0)
AIRDRIE – Jackson Little stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Airdrie Thunder skated to a 4-0 victory over the Red Deer Vipers.
Jordan McConnell, Jason Wenzel, Brett Campbell and Rylan Plante-Crough provided the offence for the Thunder (7-0-0), which have now won seven straight to open the season.
Justin Sanderson finished with 32 saves between the pipes for the Vipers (3-3-0).
Blackfalds Wranglers (4) – High River Flyers (1)
HIGH RIVER – Four different skaters found the back of the net as the Blackfalds Wranglers used a balanced attack to take a 4-1 win over the High River Flyers.
Dayton Playford put the Wranglers (1-2-1) after 20 minutes, while Taite Opdendries made it a 2-0 game early in the second period.
After Tyler Alger got the Flyers (4-3-1) on the board, Braden Olsen restored the two-goal lead for the Wranglers with a power-play marker at the 13:03 mark of the final frame, while Kyle Imesch added an empty netter late.
Lane Brann was solid between the pipes, stopping 34-of-35 shots faced, while Chantz Vinck took the loss in net for the Flyers, finishing with 43 saves on the night.
Strathmore Wheatland Kings (6) – Three Hills Thrashers (2)
STRATHMORE – Two goals in the opening five minutes paced the Strathmore Wheatland Kings to a 6-2 win over the Three Hills Thrashers.
Brenden Moore opened the scoring just 1:41 into the game, while Kody Hammond made it a 2-0 lead less than three minutes later. Lucas Muenchrath added a power-play marker before the period was finished, giving the Wheatland Kings (3-3-1) a 3-0 cushion after 20 minutes.
Garret Vander Ploeg, Kaleb Rowe and Cole Busslinger would each add a single to round out the Strathmore scoring, while goaltender Cole Bright picked up the win between the pipes, stopping 22-of-24 shots faced.
Conner Dixon made 41 saves for the Thrashers (0-5-0), which got goals from Rory Van Doren and Austin Price.
Coaldale Copperheads (6) – Okotoks Bisons (2)
OKOTOKS – A two-goal performance off the stick of Jayden Smith propelled the Coaldale Copperheads to a 6-2 win over the Okotoks Bisons.
Tyler Anderson chipped in with a goal and two helpers for the Copperheads (6-1-1), while Mitchell Konschuk, Levi Anderson and Brandyn Howg rounded out the scoring.
Nolan Berner made 27 saves in net, registering his fourth win of the season in the process.
Devin Reagan suffered the loss for the Bisons (7-1-1), stopping 40-of-46 shots faced.
