Thunder power-play sparks Game 4 victory

Zachary Giroux and Dante Raposo each scored twice as the Airdrie Thunder evened their best-of-seven series with the Red Deer Vipers at two games apiece after a 7-4 win on Monday.

Giroux also added an assist, while Raposo added two helpers to give himself a four-point night as the Thunder banked in four goals on the man-advantage, including three in an eight-minute span early in the second period.

Jack Maccready, Matt Thomson and Brett Campbell rounded out the attack for Airdrie, which held a commanding 6-0 lead going into the third period before the Vipers would turn it on.

Tristyn Zarubiak got Red Deer on the board two minutes into the final frame, then Logan Linnell went to work, scoring a natural hat trick in less than four minutes to make it a 6-4 game, but that would be as close as they would get on this night.

Ryan Simpson turned aside 46-of-50 shots faced in the Thunder’s crease to register the victory.

The pivotal Game 5 gets going Wednesday evening in Red Deer. Puck drop at Servus Arena is at 8:30pm.
