Murray scores twice as Thunder even series

Clay Murray scored twice as the Airdrie Techmation Thunder held on for a 6-4 victory over the Red Deer Vipers on Friday night, evening up their best-of-seven North Division final series at one game apiece.

Murray’s second of the night, this one happening six minutes into the third period, proved to be the winner for the Thunder, which held leads of 3-2 after 20 minutes and 4-3 going into the final frame.

Goaltender Ryan Simpson recorded the victory between the Airdrie pipes, stopping 39 shots on the night, while Zachary Giroux led the team with three points, a goal and two helpers.

Kristopher LeClair, Dante Raposo and Jason Wenzel rounded out the scoring for the Thunder.

Logan Linnell scored twice and added one assist for the Vipers, while Jacksyn Goodall and Bailey Lawson each chipped in with a single.

Branden Bilodeau suffered the loss in the Red Deer crease, finishing with 31 saves.

Game 3 of the series goes Saturday evening at the Servus Arena in Red Deer. Puck drop is at 8:00pm
