Hockey might be over for now.
But there's still plenty of reasons to celebrate the game and the players, who continue to do great things in and out of the rink.
HJHL veteran Braden Bystrom, a forward with the Rocky Rams in 2019-20, was presented with Hockey Alberta's Future Leaders scholarship in March.
"It was for post-secondary students and 20 of us went to a camp for a weekend," Bystrom said. "From there, the top eight were able to go work with the U-16 development program (and all received a $1,000 scholarship).
"There were four from the men's and four for the women's and we spent a week with them. After that, they chose two for another $3,000 scholarship.
"(Hockey Alberta) said 'we thought you did a great job here, and with the stuff you've been doing away from us.' I was pretty happy about that."
The extra cash will come in handy when Bystrom, who has three courses left at Red Deer College, as he hopes to attend the University of Lethbridge in the fall to study secondary education.
Rams president Ryan Stambaugh said Hockey Alberta couldn't have picked a finer young man.
"If there is anyone who deserves this, it is Beastie," Stambaugh said. "He is a hard-working individual, both on and off the ice, as a player and a coach.
"He always puts in 110 per cent."
Bystrom scored 10 goals and a career-high 19 points in 25 games in 2019-20.
But being a veteran on an expansion isn't always easy.
"Coming from Wetaskiwin last year, there was an adjustment coming from a top team in the Capital League," the 6-foot, 210 pounder said. "Coming back to the Heritage League, I was familiar with the league because I played for Blackfalds two years before that.
"I took on a leadership role with Rocky. I knew we needed to have some fun and not dwell on being on a losing team.
"We started getting better after the Christmas break and we made the playoffs, which was our No. 1 goal."
The Rams finished their inaugural campaign with an 11-25-2 record, beating the Ponoka Stampeders 4-3 on the final night of the regular season to stamp their ticket to the post-season.
"We knew it was going to be a longshot — I think we had a 2-14 record at one point," Bystrom said. "But we knew if we kept on grinding, we could get it, and we got it in that last game against Ponoka.
"We also got a win in the playoffs, which was great. We thought we had a chance there, but they had some power."
Bystrom isn't as cooped up as the rest of us as the world clamps down to battle the coronavirus.
He spends his time on a farm 5 km south of Benalto.
"I'm just doing some schoolwork and farming here and there, getting ready for when the snow hopefully melts," Bystrom said.
"At least you don't have to worry about someone coming and giving you the disease, so I can do some activity out here."
